Fixing stuff around yourself

I was in my room and I was quite absorbed in doing the Everyday leadership course. I was enjoying the course very much when I came across the project Fix things around yourself. So I just observed my surroundings and thought my room needs some serious cleaning. It was all a mess with bed sheet not in a proper manner, blanket sprawled like a child half-asleep on my bed, cushions scattered all over the sofa, and of course an opened laptop on which I was working.

I keep my room always clean even if I am working because it keeps me focused on the impending task and boast my thinking as well. It gets messed up sometimes during work but not as much as I messed it up last night. So I decided it needed to be rearranged and dusted and I have to do it quickly so I can go back to completing my course.

Before organizing room

I fixed my room by rearranging the bed sheet, folding the blanket and putting it back to almirah, rearranged all scattered cushions to their previous places, and lastly did dusting of the whole room but the first and foremost step was closing the laptop.

Outcome

During cleaning, I felt my stress-reducing and my mood becoming more joyful. After cleaning the room I felt relaxed and contented to see the room organized, excited to resume my course, and thrilled to write the experience in my blog.

Even if no one told me to do so or I haven’t come across this activity I would still have done it. But it might not be at the same time I did. Earlier I had planned to complete the course and do the cleaning of the whole house including this room later because all of my family members were asleep at that time in the morning. So I thought what can be a better time to complete my course peacefully when I am free and it’s quiet. In this way, I will be more focused on learning and I will complete it efficiently because of no disturbance and distractions.

This tiny experience of mine is connected to leadership without authority in a way that no one was there to dictate to me how, why, and when to do the task, no one was there to give me directions too. I did the whole task wholeheartedly and willingly. My experience may not seem to have a visible connection with everyday leadership. But it is on a level connected to everyday leadership in a way that I myself decided to do this task, I took the initiative, I made it happen and I am responsible for the outcome.
